Recent windows operating systems include support for smoothing the edges of fonts to make them more readable.  It certainly helps those "jagged" human readable fonts.

However, this setting can have a negative impact when printing barcode fonts, especially 2-D fonts like data matrix.  Therefore, you should disable font smoothing as follows:

  • Open Display from Control Panel.  (Start, Control Panel, Display)
  • Go to Appearance tab.
  • Click on the Effects button.
  • Disable the option
