QR Encoder crashes in Crystal 10

We've just licensed QR Code Fonts & Encoder 5 to print QR codes with Crystal Reports.

In Crystal 2011 everything is working fine, but with crystal 10, whose runtime some of our customers still use, we get a crash as soon as QRCodeEncodeSet or QRCodeEncodeGet are called. This only seems to happen on some systems, as it worked on a Win 7 32-bit machine but crashed on a Win 2008 64-bit server.

We've found a solution to this by adding a Windows "Data Execution Prevention" exception for crystal 10 EXE, but we can't do that for each and every of our customers. Is this a known issue? Seems fairly wide spread with all kinds of Crystal plugins in older Crystal versions.

This is caused by Crystal reports bug. In CR8.5 and 9.0 this bug definitely exist and has no other fix unless you turn off DEP.

In CR 10 you may be able to fix this issue by applying a late service pack.

CR12 (VS2008) and CR14 (Crystal reports 2011) do not have this issue.

Crystal 10 SP 6 is installed with no effect at all. Still crashing.

If you must not change the DEP settings, you can obtain a copy of QRCode Fontware & SDK 1.1 (the version prior to 5). This version has a Crystal plugin that uses a different interface so it does not run into the Crystal bug.

There are three ways to solve the DEP issue:

* Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only
* Turn on DEP for all programs, and exclude the process that loads Crystal runtime.
* Turn off DEP on Windows Level.
