Help on PDF417 patterns!

Hi Everybody!
Can anyone help me on reading a barcode (not through hardware) I need help on how or whats the algo of conversion in PDF417, like in code 39 we have patterns like 'nnwwnnnnn' representing narrow and wide bars. So how does PDF417 exports raw bytes or hex?
